Production has officially kicked off for “John Rambo,” a prequel delving into the earlier chapters of the famed action hero’s life, prior to the events depicted in the 1982 film “First Blood.” Filming is underway across diverse locales in Thailand, such as Bangkok, Krabi, Phang Nga, and Kanchanaburi, utilizing both urban and rugged settings to vividly portray the origins of the character.
The young John Rambo will be portrayed by actor Noah Centineo, who is taking on the role originally brought to life by Sylvester Stallone. The film is being directed by Jalmari Helander, known for the action thriller “Sisu,” with a screenplay penned by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani. The prequel is set to explore the pivotal experiences that molded Rambo into one of cinema’s most iconic action figures. Although specific plot details are scarce, the narrative is expected to shed light on the formative years and incidents that influenced the character’s future trajectory.
The production team is composed of seasoned filmmakers and producers, with Sylvester Stallone himself stepping in as an executive producer. This project also sees collaboration among several major production companies, coming together to bring this new chapter of the Rambo saga to life.
The “Rambo” franchise has enjoyed enduring success in Hollywood, with five films collectively grossing over $800 million globally. This new prequel represents a significant effort to revisit the roots of the character and introduce a younger version of the legendary soldier to today’s audiences. Scheduled for release in 2027, “John Rambo” aims to capture the essence of what made the original character a beloved figure in action cinema.
