by admin477351

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian addressed the United Nations General Assembly, criticizing U.S. President Donald Trump while affirming Tehran’s readiness for dialogue, provided it is free from threats or military pressure. Pezeshkian’s remarks came shortly after Trump indicated that the United States was contemplating further measures against Iran, even as both nations engaged in renewed discussions.

The diplomatic talks, featuring a significant meeting between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff, were held on the sidelines of the UN assembly and facilitated by Qatari mediation. These discussions focused on Iran’s stipulations for ending ongoing conflicts and reducing international pressure, highlighting Tehran’s demand for a peaceful nuclear program without pursuing nuclear weapons.

Central to the negotiations is the issue surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime passage that has witnessed disruptions affecting global shipping and energy markets. Iran has maintained that reopening the waterway depends on the cessation of military threats and economic sanctions, alongside the release of Iranian assets.

Pezeshkian accused the U.S. and Israel of aggressive actions against Iran, defending Tehran’s stance as a measure of self-defense amid increasing economic sanctions and challenges with oil exports due to international restrictions. Iran’s conditions for easing tensions include lifting the naval blockade and other economic pressures.

Despite the deep-seated disagreements between Washington and Tehran over sanctions and Iran’s nuclear ambitions, the recent diplomatic exchanges at the UN signal that dialogue remains a viable path forward. Iran continues to call for regional cooperation on security, advocating for reduced reliance on external powers to maintain stability.
